Mark McClellan, Mike Merson, Krishna Udayakumar, and Gary Edson issued a report, “Reducing Global COVID Vaccine Shortages: New Research and Recommendations for US Leadership.” To address global vaccine inequity, this report proposes a US-led Global Vaccine Access Initiative, which would build on prior US-led efforts, including the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and promote the sharing of excess vaccine doses, as well as the development of increased manufacturing capacity for high-quality vaccines through voluntary licensing agreements involving public-private partnerships.
The recommendations in the report were echoed in an op-ed in Politico co-authored by Mark McClellan, Mike Merson, Krishna Udayakumar, and Gary Edson entitled, “Why America’s Next COVID Push Should be Outside America.”
